"Over the past 3 or 4 sessions each legislator has been given a pot of money that they could allocate as they wish. In the 2020 session that was around $700,000 for each Senator and around $400,000 for each Representative. This money is generally referred to as HB2 Junior (HB2 the the main appropriation bill).

"We are told that with the budget surplus that there will be HB2 Junior money available in this session. This is a chance to ask your legislator to allocate money to your health council. Here is how the the request should go:

"'Please allocate $50,000 (that has been the minimum in the past) of recurring funding to the NM Department of Health to provide funding to the _________________________ health council.' Explain the work your health council does for your community.

"The money has to go through a government entity.

"If you would like to discuss further please join us for the beginning our Policy Committee meeting on Friday, January 14th at 9 am.

A reminder that the Legislative session starts at noon on January 18th!
