100% New Mexico & Aphasia and Effective Communication Strategies

Presented by: Dom Cappello and Katherine Ortega Courtney, Founders and Co-Directors of the Anna Age Eight Institute, which fields the 100% Community initiative, Dr. Kaitlin Brooks, Assistant Professor and Clinical Supervisor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Molloy College in Rockville Center, NY, and Avi Golden, EMT and former Critical Care and Flight Paramedic with North-Shore LIJ and NY Presbyterian EMS.

The founders and co-directors of the Anna Age Eight Institute, at NMSU, will provide an overview of their 100% New Mexico initiative, which organizes communities to ensure that 100% of families and all residents have access to ten vital services for surviving and thriving. Then, learn about aphasia and use of strategies to communicate with these individuals in daily situations. The presenters will describe aphasia, including the different types, describe common symptoms of aphasia, educate listeners on various communication strategies that can be used to improve communicative exchanges between people with aphasia and communication.
